The Fairmont Community Church is rooted in the evangelical, Protestant tradition of Christianity. We are a church in the Churches of God, General Conference denomination.
We believe that every person is loved by God, but we also believe that any one wrong thing we commit against God (sin) permanently separates us from living a life with God, especially for eternity […].
No amount of good works or deeds can ever restore us to that broken relationship we now have with God […]. Yet, we believe that God loved us so much that he sent his only Son, Jesus Christ to the earth over 2000 years ago […].
Jesus, by the power of God’s Holy Spirit, lived a sinless life — he never broke his relationship with God. But then Jesus was executed on a cross […]. The Bible tells us that the blood He shed and the death he died on that cross can overcome all the wrongs and sins we have against God; better yet, we are called “friends” of God! […]
But that’s not the end of Jesus. After three days, he conquered death and lives again! Both the Bible and other historical sources mention numerous eyewitnesses to this miracle […].
All we must do to restore our relationship with God is confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead […]. It’s a free gift. And it is that simple.
We then do our best to honor and love God by avoiding sin and by growing our relationship with God through prayer, worship, serving one another, and meditating on the Bible […]. Even when we become Christians, we’ll still mess up and sin against God; we damage, but don’t lose our relationship with God. God simply asks that turn away from those sins, that we consistently “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life” and be better followers […].
Why would I want to change my life and believe in Jesus?
Believing in Jesus makes us better people. God calls us to love others in the same way He showed His love for us.
Scripture tells us that putting our faith in Christ will give us “abundant life”.
We know that the only way to get to heaven is to be in a right relationship with God. As explained above, believing in Jesus is the only way to do that. By not believing in Christ, we choose to live eternally in a very real place called hell.
When we put our faith in Christ, God gives us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit works in our minds and hearts, guiding us to make good choices and inspiring us to love one another, and pushing us to live a life that honors God.
